Part of Your World

One of my leads at work and good friends, Emerald, is getting married! I was given the privilege of doing her engagement shots in San Francisco at both the DeYoung Museum as well as the Japanese Tea Garden. The weather started off dreary but ended up bright and shiny, just like the happy couple. Emerald and Steve were so fun to shoot because they weren't afraid to be goofy and be themselves (At one point, I do believe I heard Steve belt out parts of the Little Mermaid). They are so in love and it shows in every frame I captured. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Mama Spigno

For visualization, we were told to create a portrait that would reveal a little about the person being photographed. I chose to photograph my mom. I put her in her natural habitat and tried to show how every weekend, she buries herself in her work and after 25 hour days, gets to sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labor. She loves what she does and my job was to capture her passion in the way she carries herself in the kitchen and the emotion she shows.
As for being the strong woman she is, my mom is a cancer survivor. Going on 1.5 years in remission, she finally stood proud and embraced her survival at the local cancer walk. Although she accidentally checked her ethnicity as African American on her survivor form, I am so proud to be her daughter. She has taught me good work ethic, to be a lady, and has given me the drive to do the best I can in everything I pursue; to follow my passion.
Thank you mama. You are an amazing Godly woman and I thank you for every opportunity you have given me.

Cowboy, Take Me Away

In order to introduce this series of photos, I must first tell you why they were taken.
For my printing class, we had to select a them for our final and stylize the prints as if we were showing a perspective client or being interviewed for a job opportunity or gallery showing. I chose to do wedding/engagement style photography so that I can gain more experience and add to my portfolio. My best friend Sarah and her boyfriend Heath seem to be a pretty striking couple so I thought that they would be perfect for some of the photos in my final project.
The photos were taken way out in the country part of Modesto on some acres Heath had access to. Their was an amazing sunset and I also was able to try out my new reflector :) Sarah was quite excited about it and kept walking up to me and Heath, holding it to our face, and gasping at the difference it made. Overall, it was a great shoot that I wish didn't end as soon as it did! Hopefully I can coax them into another session to finish the ideas swimming around in my head :)

The two at their finest ;)

Probability

The following images are done by one of my favorite teachers, Kirkman Amyx. I have learned so so much from him throughout two semesters and today, he showed us some of his projects that have been showcased in galleries throughout the past few years. All of these projects are made up of thousands of images he took in order to prove the probability that randomness is not so random after a long period of time.

Over the course of 10 hours, Kirk and his assistant threw one dice 10,000 times, photographing each roll. He then created a stop motion video of the shots and a composite photo of 100, 1,000, and all 10,000 rolls. He also created composite photos of just the 1's, then 2's and so forth to show that they all begin to have the same basic pattern. Pretty crazy right?!

_____

One Thanksgiving weekend, Kirk took photos of all of his family members throwing 100 darts each. What he found was that each person has their own pattern and identity that can be seen in the photo, much like a portrait. For the exhibit, Kirk set up the photos with the names and ages of each family member and then combined them all for the image below. Kirk also tried doing this with various BAC levels; seeing the results in class probably the highlight of my day :)

I hope you enjoy these photos! They really inspire me because it is so amazing that you can take a simple idea like probability and try to prove it in such an artistic way that I can say I have never seen before. It also shows just how amazing a final product can be after lots of hard work and over a long period of time.

Happy Earth Day!

Although Earth Day isn't for a few more days, I decided to take photos of the landscape around my home in the valley. It was a beautiful day today and the river looked amazing!

I hope everyone enjoys their earth day! It is so amazing the little surprises and beauty you can still find all around you :)
